It’s a good idea to plan the year out as much as possible during January and February to give some additional structure to your PR and marketing program for the rest of the year.
To help you on the way, WMC PR has prepared a spreadsheet that should kick-start you in the right direction and help you execute effective campaigns over the next 12 months.
While the spreadsheet has been populated with some items to give you an idea of what content to include, you should tailor it to your specific business needs.
If you are across your industry, it shouldn’t take too long to drop in relevant content.
First up, get in touch with publications that serve your target market and ask for a media kit, in which you will find features and topics they plan to cover for each month. Select the ones you can contribute to in a meaningful way and add to the spreadsheet. Find out what the deadline is for editorial submissions.
Next, type in significant dates and events that are internationally and nationally recognised, such as Mother’s Day and Halloween, where your business has something to offer. In this section, you can also add in school holidays if they influence your business.
Then add events and festivals that are relevant to your industry. You may not directly participate in them, but maybe one of your partners does and there are opportunities for joint promotion or collaboration.
In addition to national events, there are many state-based ones that may be relevant, so include these as well.
Finally, when you know of specific dates for new product launches and introductions, speaking engagements, a roadshow or an international visitation program that the business is organising or part of, make sure to list these too.
Before you know it, you’ll have a good outline of activities that will help plan your PR and marketing for the year.
If the budget don’t always extend to advertising or exhibiting to coincide with the event, there are many creative ways in which they can be leveraged at much less cost.
So open your search engine and start searching and populating the spreadsheet, which can be downloaded from HERE! Please let me know how you go.
