Most businesses will see a reduction in work while COVID-19 remains in the community but it is possible to make the situation a thumbs up, not a thumbs down.
Here are two threads of positive actions you can take to pivot from the existing situation and get the greatest value out of any downtime your business experiences.
First, think about any ways you can generate new business or continue to service existing clients/customers. Whether that is through, for example, home deliveries, online or digital services, special offers, or to collaborate or create an alliance with someone who has the same target market as you.
Have some ‘coffees in the cloud’ with optimistic people you know who have some good ideas and help each other come up with alternative ways to keep business flowing.
Second, think of any spare time you have as an opportunity to do all the things you know you should do but haven’t got around to doing them.
Kirsty Wilson from Interim Business Solutions has helped in compiling these valuable tips that I’m sure will be of benefit to you.
. Clean and tidy your office and do the filing.
. Sort your email inbox folders (and deleted folder) so it is respectable.
. Do your backups.
. Review and tidy your mailing list/s.
. Write the next one or two newsletters (or more!)
. Why not update your email signature if it’s not been done for a few years?
. Check the archives and shred or throw out anything that’s old
. Attend webinars and catch up with older and new podcasts/TED Talks.
. Read business books.
. Write thank you/touching base notes to clients.
. Brainstorm blog post ideas and write them for the balance of the year.
. Register for free e-learning courses.
. Host a Skype/Zoom coffee catch-up.
. Brainstorm marketing ideas.
. Review your website copy, check that images are loading OK and your contact form works.
. Keep up with your social media conversations and engagement.
. Call your suppliers/partners/clients and say hello. With most people now working from home, it’s nice to hear a friendly voice (so keep it positive and upbeat).
