5 reasons why blogs are good for your business

November 26, 2019Wendy McWilliams

An effective way to generate awareness of your products and services is through business blogging.

Publishing and sharing blogs, like this PR Blog, can reinforce your expertise and shine a light on your brand.

I have been producing this PR blog and a PR newsletter since 2011 and sending it to hundreds of people who want to learn more about PR & publicity and how my advice can help their business or the company they work for.

When I write my blog, I really do think of the people who will be reading it on the fourth Wednesday of the month when it’s published and what would resonate with them. Nine times out of 10 the topic is inspired by questions or issues that have arisen over the past week or two.

But why should you do a business blog? Here are five good reasons:

  1. Keep in touch with your current, past and potential clients/customers; referral partners; stakeholders; future employees; business partners; suppliers and numerous others.
  2. Regular posts on your website increase your SEO as search engines love fresh, relevant content, particularly when seasoned with the keywords that will drive traffic to your website. If desired, it can then be used as a lead generator.
  3. As touched on earlier, it allows you to build trust and position you/your brand as an industry authority on your subject. Don’t underestimate the power of your subscribers telling their friends or people in their networking groups about what you do.
  4. Provide opportunities for your subscribers to share your blog with others, particularly on social media platforms and encourage them to subscribe.
  5. A blog allows you to go into more depth on a particular issue than you would on a page on a website. A longer article also means you can add a greater range of keywords that relate to your business and those of interest to your prospects. This can be a valuable resource, driving traffic to your site for years.

In terms of frequency, fortnightly or monthly is the best as blogs can often be repetitive if they are done weekly. It’s important to produce fresh content each time.

PS Wondering why I chose the image above of Canary Wharf in London? No reason whatsoever. Just loved the synchronicity of the clocks and would love to think that I’m in just as much synch with you and providing you with helpful information that you can use in your business.
